Cardinals are one of the most common garden birds in North America. They are also non-migratory, meaning they generally remain in the area during the cold winter months and scavenge for food. These birds can be found in Eastern and Southern U.S as well as throughout the Midwest.

Cardinals will gladly eat many types of seed, however, the key to these songbirds heart is the sunflower seed. Cardinals have been known to pick through seeds mixtures in search of sunflower seeds.

When selecting your Cardinal bird feeder, keep in mind that cardinals prefer to rest on a steady, stationary surface while they feed. Choose a large platform or pole-mounted bird feeder to achieve this stability. Instead of offering a feeder with small narrow perches, elect for a cardinal feeder with a flat feeding surface or a surrounding perch ring. This will provide plenty of room for these medium-sized birds to feed comfortably.

Not only are these birds easy on the eye but they can also provide musical entertainment through out the day. Cardinals enjoy dining early morning and late night, so spectators have multiple opportunities to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Cardinal.
